A WORLDLEADING ecologist will tell business leaders from across the North West that managing the environment is one of the greatest challenges facing managers.
He claims that people are not fully aware of the crisis facing humankind.
Sir Ghillean Prance will deliver the Institute of Management's 2000 Celebrity Lecture at Lancaster University School of Management on Wednesday May 17.
The lecture will be illustrated by examples of rainforest destruction and the consequent effects on climate change.
The loss of species is serious both for their role in maintaining the environment, and for their potential uses.
Sir Ghillean says that "if humanity is to survive through the next millennium, then drastic measures must be taken to correct our attitudes and behaviour towards the environment.
Managers have a special responsibility to learn about the real facts concerning the environment, and to attempt to promote sustainable living in all aspects of our lives". The event is targeted at all managers regardless of whether they are experts in environmental issues.
Students pursuing management or business qualifications will also find it beneficial for improving their understanding in this topic.
Admission is free, but the lecture theatre has limited seating.
The meeting will be held in the George Fox Theatre, University of Lancaster at 6pm for 6.30pm on Wednesday May 17.
