FOLLOWING Nutgrove FC's capture of the St Helens Combination's Division One title it now looks like the Clock Face Miners Welfare second string have taken the Division Two title.
They clinched title was taken by with a 3-2 home win over Bowling Green thanks to goals from John Roby and Paul Molyneux. Before that a 6-2 blasting of rivals Broad Oak at Parr Stocks in mid-week paved the way.
Also mid-week Carr Mill outplayed St Helens Star Premier Division rivals Pilkingtons Reserves with goals from Barry Ball (2), Rob Stroud and Tony Costello. Rivals Shoe FC just scraped home 2-1 at Carborundum with Peter Chisnall and Gary Finch scoring
Both these teams clashed in a D H Griffiths Cup semi-final at Bishop Road last Thursday with Carr Mill going on to a May 1 Bank Holiday morning clash with Sidac Social. Social, Tony Costello, Warren Griffiths and a Damon Owen penalty seeing them to a 3-1 win.
The Sidac Social semi-final tie with Chestnut Lodge on Saturday ended with a 4-2 home win for Sidac, goals from Carl Pilling, Derek Pilling, Barry Appleton and Andy Eaton giving them a long awaited Cup Final appearance.
Combination youngsters, Paul Forrester (Carr Mill), Mark Evans (Pilks), Chris Marsh (Penlake) and Gerard's David Oakes and Matty Innes - who scored a great goal - are proud owners of Northern Counties championship medals following Liverpool County FA's Youth teams beating of Cheshire FA 4-3 at the Soccer Centre last Saturday. .
Good Friday morning sees Carr Mill and Shoe battle out the Garswood Trophies Hospital Cup Final at Hoghton Road - St Helens Town FC. It will probably be held there for the last time, as the proposed move of St Helens Town to Knowsley Road means the end of football at Hoghton Road.
Due to a couple of resignations, the Combinations Sunday Division is open for applications.
