INDIAN cricket authorities want to see Lancashire's new overseas star Saurav Ganguly next week as part of their wide ranging investigation into match fixing.
There is no suggestion that the India captain has been involved in anything underhand, but his cricket board are determined to get to the bottom of the affair and are set to quiz anyone who might be able to help. Coach Kapil Dev, one of the superstars of Indian cricket, has also been asked to appear before his country's board of control to explain recent poor performances by the national team.
India's determination to speak face to face with Ganguly could cause Lancashire a problem. The Delhi heirarchy want to see him on April 27, and that would mean him missing the first championship match of the season against Kent at Canterbury which starts next Wednesday.
Ganguly has said that he would co-operate with his board, as long as it does not involve missing Lancashire games, but he will not have any choice if India insist.
Lancashire are already sure to be without Ganguly for a string of games in late May early June when he leads India in the one day Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
