I THANK Mrs B Anthony (Letters, April 12) for putting me on the right track regarding the Grane Road.
It would certainly be a major engineering operation to straighten the road, involving not only, as Mrs Anthony points out, extensive tunnelling, but probably a few bridges as well.
And even then, it would still be possible for one vehicle to run into the back of another, as you report happened recently.
So it seems that Mrs Anthony's suggestion that motorists should drive better is the one that should be adopted. I might have made the suggestion myself, had I not been mindful of the currently very widely-held attitude that when one finds oneself in any kind of trouble, it is always somebody else's fault.
There is much to be said for Mrs Anthony's implied view that there is nothing wrong with the Grane Road -- only with some of the people who drive on it.
