VAUXHALL clinched a league and cup double after sinking United for the second time in three days -- but Dale boss Micky Graham can again be proud of his side's efforts.
After the heartache of losing 3-1 following extra time in the Floodlit Trophy final on Thursday, United picked themselves up to push the long-time league-leaders all the way.
And they did everything but score against a fiercely competitive Vauxhall side before Phil Brazier settled this energy-sapping contest 12 m inutes from time.
Brazier burst through the centre of the Dale defence before slotting a low shot past keeper Mark Andrews to confirm the home side's place in the UniBond League next season.
And now Dale face a fight with Newcastle as to who finishes runner up. Leading scorer Craig Sargeson missed a couple of chances to put Dale in front and Steve Cunningham nearly broke the deadloch with a delightful curler after a neat interchange involvcing Danny Heys.
But as on Thursday night, Dale were indebted to the sharp reflexes of Abdrews who pulled off a couple of top-draw saves before Brazier finally beat him in the last 15 minutes.
