CLITHEROE have appointed reserve team boss Dave Burgess as their new manager.

As revealed on Friday, the Blues' football committee had identified Burgess as their number one target to succeed Steve Parry.

And the move was rubber-stamped following a meeting of the club's full committee after Saturday's aborted FNWTL First Division clash against Newcastle at Shawbridge.

"Dave has done very well for us whilst he has been in charge of the reserves, bringing some excellent young players through to the first team," said chairman, Steve Rush.

"And we felt he deserved the chance to have a crack at first team management on the strength of his record."

Burgess has been involved with the club for the past six years and has led the club's second string to the FNWTL Reserve Division cup final this term.

Clitheroe reserves can also clinch the league title if they win their last two games.

Clitheroe's final game, and Parry's last match in charge, against Newcastle will go ahead tomorrow.
