A GOVERNMENT report praises a Clitheroe cement firm for its community work and environmental efforts.
Castle Cement was commended by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions as an example of best practice in the construction industry.
The report aims to help the construction industry work towards improving standards of living by increasing economic prosperity, reducing pollution and making better use of natural resources.
Castle Cement's community relations programme and its achievement of the environmental management standard ISO14001 came in for praise.
Environment manager Iain Walpole said using Cemfuel at Ribblesdale was part of Castle's environmental practice.
"We save a significant level of coal through our alternative fuels programme, which recovers energy from materials that can't be recycled like waste solvents, used tyres, paper and plastic."
