A GROUP of teddy bears brought smiles to the faces of youngsters spending Easter in hospital.

Children at Queen's Park Hospital in Blackburn have 30 teddy bears to cuddle up to, thanks to a donation from Darren Tomlins, manager of Portakabin's Blackburn Hire Centre.

Several of the young people from the Children's Medical Unit, and play leader Elizabeth Halsall, were on hand to greet the teddies when they arrived.

Elizabeth said: "Play is an important part of a child's recovery and a distraction to their worries. I'm sure the teddy bears will be much appreciated and will provide some happier memories.

"I'd like to thank Portakabin for their donation. Our standards are very high and local support is always much appreciated."

The teddy bears will benefit children up to 16 years of age who are admitted to the Children's Medical Unit, in which there are 38 beds.

Darren Tomlins said: "The teddy bear donation is our way of saying thanks to everyone who has supported the Blackburn Hire Centre since its opening in March 2000.

"The team in the Children's Medical Unit does a wonderful job and we are more than happy to help."
