MY name is Peter James McNulty and I would like to bring up the issue of passive smoking on buses.
If someone smokes on a bus, be it a passenger or the bus driver, then that smoker gets away with murder.
Because not all the buses have either two-way radio or mobile telephone as standard, smokers are not stopped, not policed, not imposed a fine decided by the magistrates courts.
The battle against smokers is under-resourced. It needs lottery money to fuel the fight against smokers who disregard the effects and devastation the smoke has to passive smokers.
It would be nice for passive smokers to receive financial compensation from either one of, or a combination from the following:
The tobacco companies.
The magistrates court.
The Department of the Environment, Transport and Regions.
The bus companies concerned.
The smokers, both from passengers or/and bus drivers.
Passive smokers on buses receive no compensation, financially at present.
When magistrates courts do decide on the actual level of fine to be imposed on the smoker, where does the money end up? To the passive smoker?
