THE asylum issue has clearly caused hostility within the district.
Due to local attitude it would be a mistake to encourage these people into the resort that already has problems with crime and badly managed housing.
As a resort we would not be able to provide adequate services or support for these people. There has been no consideration given to people who live in our districts their views should have been listened to before the Home Office marked Morecambe as a possible distribution point for the asylum seekers.
It is a fact that the majority of people in this country feel uneasy about living alongside asylum seekers even though these people have faced traumas and tragedy in their own country, something that people who have been born in peacetime in this country could hardly imagine.
What the Home Office should be doing is monitoring which asylum seekers are genuine and ensuring they are provided for adequately until they can return to their country, the bogus ones should of course be assessed as to why they need to be in this country.
