GREEN councillors are calling for additional stops to be placed on Chapel Street to allow elderly residents to shop at supermarkets in the north of the city. This call has been prompted because the bus station has been closed before the new bus station begins construction shortly. Cllr Sandra Greaves said: "The new arrangements are not fair on older people who have to trail their shopping from KwikSave and Sainsbury's up to Spring Garden Street.
"I am obviously pleased that the new bus station is to be built at last, but we must make adequate provision for bus users in the mean time."
The Green Group will be raising the matter in today's full council meeting and asking for additional stops on Chapel Street.
"The current bus station was closed on April 24 to allow asbestos to be removed before the new development begins on May 15.
