LEIGH RMI scored a convincing 2-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic at Hilton Park on Saturday.
Boss Steve Waywell said: "We can only throw it away ourselves from this position but we are growing in confidence and learning to be patient."
RMI had to wait until the 49th minute with Stalybridge frustrating them. But Brian Ross did have early chances, denied first by Matt Williamson clearing off the line and then by the woodwork. On both occasions goalkeeper Guy Ingham was beaten.
In defence Dave Felgate was always solid between the sticks.
Tony Black broke the deadlock, making the most of a clever Steve Jones pass to chip the keeper for his 21st goal of the season.
Twelve minutes from time RMI secured when Jones picked the ball up on half-way, then dribbled across the face of the area before blasting home for his 20th goal of the season.
