NEIL CLAYTON pushed Higher Fold LC to royal glory. They beat Leigh Sportsmen 5-3 in a thrilling Redwaters Coronation Cup Final in the Leigh & District Amateur Football League. Goal ace Clayton was named MoM but the goals this time came from Steve Critchley, Adrian Darwin, Mick Blakeley and Jody Holt 2.
Mark Mather and Neil Thompson 2 replied for Sportsmen.
In the semi-final Sportsmen had hammered Division One side Leigh Avenue 6-1 with doubles from Carl Buckley and Steven Isherwood and singles from Shane Brennan and Thompson; Avenue replied through Craig Faulkner.
Higher Fold hit Atherton C&N for six in the other semi. Steve Connor hit two with scores also for Blakeley, Clayton, Adrian Darwin and Paul Berry.
Bowling Green Eagles beat Higher Fold LC 3-1 in the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy quarter-final with goals from Paul Forshaw, Greg Anderson and Simon Stout; Critchley got one back from the penalty spot. In Division One Leigh Phoenix beat Leigh Three Crowns 4-1 (James Langan, Gary Hindley, Danny Brooks, Dean Pitchford; Peter Shepherd); Union Arms beat Leigh Avenue 3-2 (Chris Gallagher, Gary Howcroft, Barry Lowe; Craig Faulkner, Stuart Yates); Royal Oak and Leigh Three Crowns drew 6-6 (Kevin Loghlin, Dave Calland, Shaun Burton 2, Johnathan Parr 2; Lesley Walker 2, Paul McCormack, Andy Stevenson 2, Jack Smith); Church Inn drew 2-2 with Union Arms (Mark Spencer, Gary Nugent; Jason Huyton 2); Bowling Green Eagles beat AFC Limelight 3-0 (Carl Stout 2, Wayne Thompson og); Union Arms drew 6-6 with Angel FC (Shaun Norbury, Danny Toone, Andy Corrigan, Chris Gallagher 2, Paul Valentine; Dave Rathbone 2, Dave Neil, Paul Hobbs 3); Bowling Green Eagles lost 3-1 to Leigh Three Crowns (Greg Anderson; Mick Gregory pen, Neil Unsworth, Kevin Parker).
