DIRECTOR Doreen Johnson had to don her deerstalker in her search for "Random Harvest".

Once it had been decided the James Hilton play would be the St Joseph's Players May production work began on tracking down copies of the script.

"Most of us had seen the 1942 film starring Ronald Colman and Greer Garson," said Doreen. "But there was no sign of it with publishers Samuel French."

The detective work finally paid off when it was discovered under an adaptation by Moie Charles and Barbara Toy.

The play (May 16-20) is being staged as a tribute to James Hilton who was born in 1900 in Wilkinson Street, Leigh, and forms part of the town's 100/2000 celebrations.

Tickets are on sale at Boardman's on Bradshawgate, Leigh.
