NELSON may have missed out on promotion this season but the plans have already been laid to make the Blues a FNWTL Division One side next time out.
John Bailey's side finished third -- just missing out on a top two finish with Curzon Ashton and Woodley Sports taking the promotion spots.
But there was nothing to be too downhearted about for Bailey, who has been impressed with the progress made so far at the Victoria Ground.
"There is a tinge of disappointment but everyone connected with Nelson FC should be proud of what we have achieved. We have improved ten-fold on last season," said Bailey, who has his sights set on more improvement.
"I am looking to add to the squad. There are a few signings in the pipeline from the UniBond and the FNWTL First Division," he said although he was remaining tight-lipped about any names.
But the player/manager, who has had his own season troubled by a back injury, was quick to pay tribute to the players who have excelled this season. "They have all been magnificent. I can't really select any one but, to be up there, you need two good goalscorers.
"We have that in Jonathan Irvine who I think has finished the season on 26 goals and Mark Robinson who got 21.
"There have also been contributions from Gary Whittaker and Kieron Roberts, before he got injured, but it is difficult to single people out."
The boss has also been impressed by the way the Blues faithful have increased in number.
"The crowds have trebled over the season. They have been over 200 and travelled away to support us. I would like to thank them for that, as well as the players and people behind the scenes who have all contributed to this season."
And the Victoria Ground is up to scratch for the FNWTL Division One.
"The ground passed its inspection in April on the presumption that we would go up this time. But it does now mean everything is in place for next season."
And, before thinking about next August, the boss has got one lasting memory of this season.
"The best moment was the 4-1 drubbing of Darwen. They were at the time, the main rivals, they were second and we were third. It was a big game and I enjoyed that win!"
