SINGLES
FUNKSTAR DE LUXE VS TERRY MAXX: Walkin In The Name (Edel Records) -- The two dance maestros have teamed up on this fresh and funky tune, with the soft voice of Terry Maxx making it a sweet combination. The pair are heading off to Miami to shoot the video and it's definitely going to be one for that summer vibe. (6/10) RP
KEVIN AND PERRY GO LARGE: Big Girl (Virgin/EMI Records) -- Teenagers Kevin and Perry head off to Ibiza in their new film and this tune is all about their antics. It will make you laugh out loud with their crazy catchphrases mixed in to club tunes and it's definitely one for fans of the TV duo. (6/10) RP
DEATH IN VEGAS: Dirge No2 (Concrete) -- The haunting voice of Dot Allison takes the tune along with a trippy sound coasting in the background. The slam mix is a bit more pumping, with head nodding being compulsory, and maybe even a bit of shoulder shuffling thrown in for good measure. After a while it sounds fairly monotonous but the final mix is a bit warped and the crazy electro mix has potential to fry your brain. (4/10) RP LOOPER: Mondo 77 (Jeepster) -- Stuart David has officially quit the ranks of Belle and Sebastian to concentrate his efforts solely on Looper. Basking in glorious lo-fi, this first cut from upcoming album The Geotrid takes a swipe at modern technology via the use of a naff-tastic Casio keyboard and ska-shuffle beat which is sure to raise an eyebrow or two. ALBUMS
BLACK BOX RECORDER: The Facts Of Life (Nude) -- Based around the theme of motion, the band's second major instalment sheds light on the fragility and instability of everyday life. Sarah Nixey's soft, flowing voice has been likened to that of a bored Stepford wife, which is fair comment. The other two members, ex-Auteurs man Luke Haynes and John Moore, also prove their worth as talented wordsmiths and musicians, adding a dark and idiosyncratic edge to proceedings. (8/10) JS
CLINIC: Internal Wrangler (Domino) -- When you're not feeling so good you visit the clinic. If you're bored of the wallpaper pop that's been lining the walls of the charts for to long, maybe this is just the Clinic for you. The Liverpool four-piece hold a set of true indie ethics, yet they don't offer any quick-fix remedies -- just 14 razor sharp tunes. Packed pull of obscure ideas, what sets Clinic apart from the rest is the quality of the high speed, keyboard-led material. 8/10 CL
