WHILE Preston legend Sir Tom Finney thinks North End can go all the way to the Premiership, striker David Eyres is only looking as far as next season, writes DANY ROBSON.

After celebrating the Division Two championship, 40 years after hanging up his boots, Sir Tom thinks top flight football is not too far away at Deepdale.

"I think there is every possibility. It is a big club and well-supported. It is a question of producing the players that are good enough to play in that division.

"If we do well in the First Division hopefully we can get promoted to the Premiership, that is the ambition."

But former Burnley favourite Eyres is too busy worrying about where he will be playing next August. He stepped back into the spotlight on Saturday after nine games on the sidelines -- and hopes he has done enough to earn a new contract.

The 36-year-old gave manager David Moyes a timely reminder that he is still there, scoring after 33 seconds direct from a free kick on a day of wild celebrations at Deepdale.

"I wanted to remind everyone I was still around," said Eyres. "There is no way I want to give up playing football, I have at least another 12 months in me, I still feel the same.

In front of just under 20,000, Michael Jackson scored the second.

Brett Angell, who is on loan from Stockport and also after a contract, scored the third on 40 minutes.

The Lions fought back, as they had done at Turf Moor the week before, but Paul Ifell and Lucas Neill's goals weren't enough and they will now have to fight for a play-off place.
