A 'WATCH your speed or be prosecuted' warning has been given by police to drivers in Briercliffe.
A slow-down campaign started today with motorists in Burnley Road being targeted, following complaints about speedsters by local residents and the parish council.
PC Roy Curwen said speed checks would be carried out day and night and that people caught speeding would be prosecuted.
He said: "This is as a result of numerous complaints from local people, who are concerned at the dangers caused by traffic travelling up and down Burnley Road at excessive speeds." Burnley Road cuts through a densely populated area and is narrow with cars parked on either side at various points.
PC Curwen added: "We are also responding to the parish council, who asked us to give priority to traffic and speeding problems in the village."
He added: "There is a genuine concern and we are doing something about it."
There will be a high visibility police presence at times, but drivers are warned that there will also be covert operations to encourage motorists to keep within the 30mph limit.
