THE arts community in Colne have formed a group with the aim of setting up a local studio and exhibition centre.
The Colne Arts Studio Association is already looking for an old mill or similar building suitable for conversion into studios for artists of all kinds including visual performers, painters and craftspeople.
One of the people behind the scheme is local artist and teacher Steve Elliott, who held an arts exhibition at his home in Norfolk Street to help raise awareness of the project.
He said: "We have already been to look at some buildings. Some are too expensive and others need a lot of work doing to them.
"We are trying to structure ourselves into a charitable foundation and are talking to community development officers and getting information about possible grant aid."
The long term project would also include an exhibition gallery, cafe and community arts accommodation as well as studios.
Anyone interested in joining the project can contact Steve on 01282 867926 or Sheila Smith on 01282 869275.
