WALKERS took to the hills to raise money for good causes.
The annual Darwen Tower Trudge was organised by the Rotary Club of Darwen and is expected to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
To celebrate the millennium an extra route was added for those who wanted to extend the traditional 10-mile walk into a half marathon.
Of the 150-plus people who took part in the event, around 20 decided to take the longer route.
But Bill Lee, Rotary Club community services chairman, said it was hoped the longer route would be added permanently to the trudge programme, and that more people would do it next year.
Walkers raised money for their own charities but all had to make a donation to the Rotary Club, who will distribute the cash raised to local good causes.
Mr Lee said: "The day went very well. The good weather helped make it very pleasant.
"We had people of all ages taking part, from Brownies to people in their 60s.
"We just want to make it a bigger event next year and get more people taking part. It will be held on the same day next year so people can start planning ahead."
