THE year 2000 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of Bury RUFC in 1875 and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Anti Assassins RUFC in 1950.
Ever since the AAs were founded there have been very strong links between the two clubs and these links have continued up to the present day.
In celebration of the two anniversaries and in acknowledgement of the strong connections existing between Bury and Anti Assassins, a match between the two clubs has been arranged for this Sunday (May 7), kick-off 2.30pm and it is hoped that as many members, friends, players, ex-members and ex-players of both clubs will be able to attend and join the celebrations.
The day will commence at 12noon and there will be a buffet lunch served in the Clubhouse from 12.30pm onwards, to which you are all cordially invited.
At approximately 1pm the Bury Junior Rugby Union members will stage a demonstration and at 1.30pm the under-10s take on local rivals Sedgley Park in a curtain-raiser to the main event.
After the game between Bury and Anti Assassins, there will be an opportunity for everyone to join together in the bar to meet friends and renew old acquaintances.
Bury ran out 20-14 winners in a friendly at Littleborough on Saturday. Try scorers were Ian Webb, Peter Stokes and Daryll Stott. Other results: Bury 2nd XV 15 MV Trafford 16, Blackburn Veterans 12 Bury Veterans 31.
