RECKLESS motorists are putting the lives of Shuttleworth residents at risk.
In just 15 days of monitoring, Bury's traffic police issued a staggering 330 fixed penalty tickets to drivers breaking the 30mph limit in Whalley Road.
Police have revealed how the 22 speeders-a-day figure is even more horrifying because, on a number of days, officers only spent between ten minutes and one hour monitoring traffic.
A large number of those who received £40 fines and 3 penalty points were heavy goods vehicle drivers.
Sergeant Martin Greenwood said: "The number of people flouting the speed limit on this one, narrow and busy road is terrifying.
"A majority of drivers were more than 10mph above the legal limit while others will now face the wrath of the courts for driving at really excessive speeds."
He added: "Those who recklessly break the speed limits are placing the lives of residents in Shuttleworth at great risk and we will not hesitate to prosecute offenders.
"We will not tolerate speeding on any of Bury's roads."
Officers used a host of speed monitoring equipment to capture offenders: hand held lasers, video lasers and mobile speed Gatso cameras were among the arsenal of weapons being used.
Sgt Greenwood concluded: "Arriving late for work or a meeting is far better than motorists living with the fact they have killed an innocent road user.."
