LOCAL sportsman Charlie Hill has won a place at Oxford University to study for his Masters Degree in theology and at the same time to qualify as a C of E Priest.
Chris, as well as playing prop forward for both the Vale of Lune and Lancaster University First XV at rugby, has been the heavyweight gold medallist in the Lancashire County Judo Championship.
What is perhaps not quite so well known about Charlie is that he has a life-long fight that has nothing to do with the judo mat, for he has had to struggle against severe dyslexia since childhood.
Despite this he attained a high 2.1 degree at Lancaster University in religious studies and philosophy and is looking forward to going to Oxford where his girlfriend, local girl Clare Fawcett, is already studying physics.
The Citizen, which first reported on Charlie over a year ago, wishes him the best of luck and when he does qualify for the Anglican priesthood we wouldn't mind a little each way bet that he will be the only rugby playing, judo fighting, dyslexic vicar in the country!
