Blyth Spartans 0 Lancaster City 2
A UNSAVOURY incident minutes from time marred this fantastic victory as City kept on the pressure to stay in the top six.
Player/manager Willie Moat appeared to have bitten Dean Martin's finger and, as a result, Moat has been reported to the league and Martin has had to have a tetanus jab.
Nothing was done during the match although manager Tony Hesketh confirmed that 'the referee has included the incident in his report'.
Moat may have felt frustrated that his side had lost their unbeaten run of 10 games, but there was no doubt that the best side won on the day, with a little help from Blyth. City were 1-0 up after just four minutes when David Eatock drove the ball into the danger area, only to see Blyth defender Andy Martin head the ball into his own net.
Eatock was instrumental throughout, having a goal ruled out for offside in the 32nd minute and then finishing with aplomb from John Fowler's through ball in the 38th minute, giving them a two goal lead. There were plenty of chances for both sides after that but the player Hesketh describes as 'the best shot stopper in the league', City 'keeper Mark Thornley did his job again and made some superb saves to keep another clean sheet.
