VANDALS have wrecked recycling bins in Bamber Bridge so many times that council bosses have decided to scrap the scheme.
Local youths have trashed the units, situated behind the World of Pine store in Station Road, so badly that they are proving to expensive to repair.
South Ribble officers say another reason for withdrawing the recycling banks is to the noise and nuisance disturbance suffered by nearby residents.
Users of the site can still recycle their glass, paper and cans at facilities in Sainsbury's car park, off Lostock Lane.
Other recycling banks are available in Hope Terrace car park, behind the shops in Leyland Road, Lostock Hall.
Officers say efforts to find new alternative sites in the Bamber Bridge area have proved unsuccessful.
A council spokesman said: "We trusts that the removal of these units will not deter people from recycling and that alternative sites will be used.
"Residents are also encouraged to recycle their waste paper through the household collection scheme that is available to every household in the borough."
