BANK holiday day-trippers were left out of pocket when a town centre cash machine started under paying users.
The hole-in-the-wall at Yorkshire Bank, in Abingdon Street, Blackpool, was dispensing sometimes as little as half the amount requested by card holders for a period of time last Saturday (April 29) afternoon.
One user requested £40 only to find that, despite his balance dropping by the said amount, the machine gave him two ten pound notes.
Another received only £60 after keying in £100.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Bank says this is the first time they have experienced such problems at the Abingdon Street branch. A decision was made to shut the machine down at approximately 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
"We don't know exactly when the problem started, but the branch was open until 1pm, so if there had been a problem before that someone would have come inside to tell us," she added.
"Although we are not sure of the exact nature of the fault, we do have a print out of all the errors in payment that were made.
"Anybody who used the cash machine and was given an incorrect amount should go into their own branch and the error can be corrected."
