ST Helens Council has stepped up its campaign to attract more foster carers with a special exhibition.
Hundreds of people stopped off at the Hardshaw Centre exhibition to find out useful information about fostering and to have the opportunity to win prizes including Marks & Spencer vouchers and a free personal caricature.
The council's foster team was on hand each day to answer questions. Response was encouraging and the council hopes that the event will lead to some firm agreements to take part in fostering children.
Chairman of Social Services, Councillor Leon McGuire, said: "More foster carers are urgently needed in St Helens and this week sees the start of a new campaign to find more local people who are willing to help. Successful carers come from many different backgrounds, and following a recent increase in allowances, it is hoped that this will encourage more people to go into a worthwhile area of fostering."
