"NAME and address supplied" (Citizen, April 27) obviously doesn't have a car, and never has had a car.

The car owner already pays car tax -- which, by the way, is used to build both roads and pavements.

The same applies to motorcyclists, including those who drive scooters -- they all pay road tax.

Those who choose to understandably park outside their own front door have every right to do so, at least they've paid for the privilege -- not just in road tax, but tax on petrol, local community charges and rates -- unlike cyclists, who demand half the road in special cycle lanes, without contributing a penny.

Motorists also must pay insurance to cover the costs of accidents and compensate victims of any such incidents, as do motorcyclists, etc.

All these road users have to pay, in order to follow stringent conditions about using the roads -- or even park a vehicle on a public road.

For many households a car is the second, if not the first, major household purchase for the benefit of all the family.

If someone has their own car, they've paid for the right to park it in front of their own home, then some...

They have every right to moan, as they have already paid for the convenience.
