GRANGE Park's first major competition of the season, the Spring Meeting, was contested by over 100 golfers over the two days - but remains unresolved after a tie between Gary Frodsham and Danny Marsh.
Alan Grocott (84-15-69) and Dave Chisel (80-11-69) led after day one but were overtaken by low handicappers Gary (four) and Danny (seven) who both shot impressive second round scores to finish all square on a 140 total for the 36 holes. The play-off, a requirement for all major competitions, has yet to be arranged.
Easter Monday's Mixed Medal did produce winners, however, with club number one Ken Hudson shooting level par off a two handicap for a nett 70 to beat the Rev Ian Birch (85-15-70) on a card play-off.
But it was the ladies who took top spot with Laura Johnstone and Bernie Marsh both carding nett 68s. Laura, off 19, won on a card play-off to follow her recent success at Royal Lytham where she had the best nett (69) at the Lancashire Girls' Championships.
Mark Garrett and Gary Frodsham were in top form in the monthly medal with excellent grosses of one under par (Mark winning with a nett 66). Ken Hudson recorded the best competition round of the season to date, a gross 69. In Division Two Ron Hesketh also had an excellent round to record a nett 65 off his 19 handicap.
In the four-ball Stableford competition Ray Ratcliffe and John Travis teamed up for success with 45 points to win by one from Andy Twist and Paul Gittens. The popular nine hole Wednesday Night medal has also got under way with the equally popular Paul Gibson (9 handicap) winning the first event with a nett 31.
