A DISPLAY in the Charter Walk shopping centre gives people the chance to see the environmental improvements planned for Burnley town centre.
The scheme will improve the remaining non-pedestrianised stretch of St James Street from Marks and Spencer to the roundabout, linking Queen's Lancashire Way and Westgate.
Plans include a new road and pavement surface, pavement widening, co-ordinated street furniture, and the creation of a bus-only lane.
The scheme gets off the ground in July and will take three months to complete. It is part of a wider programme of town centre improvements over the next 18 months, which will also see work on Lodge Square, resurfacing improvements to Hammerton Street and environmental improvements to the banks of the River Calder.
Chairman of the planning and environment committee Coun David Halsall said: "The improvements being proposed through this scheme will bring major benefits to the environment, image and perception of lower St James Street for all town centre users.
"There is no doubt these improvements, in tandem with others proposed through the wide range of town centre action plan projects, will result in a high quality environment that will attract a wider range of visitors to Burnley town centre."
The designs are on show this week at the customer care point next to Burnley market.
