PAUL LOUGHLIN gets the chance to resurrect what has been a disappointing season personally at Batley on Sunday.
The Swinton Lions centre or half back has failed to live up to his potential since joining from the Super League before the start of the season.
Injury has hampered him, but along with other big name signings, Loughlin definitely falls into the "could do better" category.
So much so, that he has been axed by coach Mike Gregory on more than one occasion this season, the last time against Rochdale at Spotland on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Lions won that one 32-21, so there are unlikely to be many changes, with Gregory reporting everyone fit, but Gregory did confirm that he would be bringing Loughlin back into the 17 on Sunday.
The Lions' fading promotion play-off hopes suffered a major setback with last Friday's 28-12 home reverse against close rivals Widnes, and Gregory admitted: "It's out of our hands now. We have got to rely on Hull KR and Barrow losing. "We play Barrow away in a couple of weeks, but if Hull KR keep winning we are up the creek without a paddle, so to speak, but we will keep on fighting till the end."
Batley, surprise 32-16 victors at Gigg Lane back in February, are likely to field an extremely lightweight pack after being decimated by injury.
Forwards Chris McWilliam, Dave Luckwell, Wayne Flynn and John Clark are all doubtful starters and coach Dave Ward will probably look to solve the injury crisis by playing a number of youngsters as Batley bid to lift themselves out of third from bottom spot in the Northern Ford Premiership table.
