IT will take several months or even more than a year before the new Lancaster bus station is in use.
It could take several years if progress is maintained at the present rate! Due to the passing of such a long period of time we will not all become used to the new temporary bus stops spread around the city centre and, should a new bus station ever be built, won't we probably continue to use these stops? So perhaps we don't need a new bus station after all?
But what then will happen to this site? It could perhaps be turned into a car park and thereby recover some of the income lost through on-street parking sites begin used by out of service buses. It may be simpler to build a smaller bus station on Cable Street just to accommodate long service coaches because I too do not know where they leave from at present.
If, as your front page report suggests, tenders are increasing all the time and there is nothing yet to show in the way of demolition or construction then I for one suggest we can make do without a new, replacement bus station.
