A FLOOD at St Mary's Chambers in Rawtenstall caused £20,000 damage to a solid oak dance floor -- but a planned party will still go-ahead.
Brian Boys, managing director of B & E Boys which owns and developed the building off Haslingden Road, said: "A worker in an upstairs offices was washing the pots when he got a call to say a friend had died.
He left the building immediately, leaving the water running.
"The next day we found the downstairs dance floor in the conference and function centre flooded."
Mr Boys said the flood caused the oak floor to curl, resulting in £20,000 worth of damage, but fortunately it was insured.
He said senior citizens who use the premises for dancing cancelled six meetings and one or two functions could not go-ahead but, he said, tomorrow night's Swinging Blitz Ball is still on.
The party, from 7pm to midnight, will feature the Ken Ward Big Band and GI Disco and guests are requested to wear '40s dress or uniforms.
