UNDREDS of young people marched through Ramsbottom for the "Millennium Parade" of the Scout and Guide Association.
Around 350 members, from 30 groups, took part in the service and parade. They were joined by Bury North MP David Chaytor and local councillor, Barry Theckston.
The event took on special significance for John Gibson. I it was the last official function for the district commissioner who retires after 15 years on June 27.
The participating groups assembled at Nuttall Park for a short service which was attended by the Rainbows, who were too young to walk, and former councillor Evelyn Waite and Mrs Sylvia Gibson, the former leader of of the Ramsbottom District Scout Council.
The procession then marched along Bury New Road to Railway Street and a rally at the TNT car park.
The Union Jack was carried by Venture Scout Tim Seddon who recently completed his explorer belt in Ireland, and the scout promise read by scouts from St Paul's Group.
