A TERRIFIED 34-year-old woman was confronted by a masked armed man in the driveway of her home.
She was parking her Subaru car at the house in Old Hall Road, Whitefield when she saw the masked man, armed with a monkey wrench.
He demanded the woman hand over the keys to her car, which police say is a model favoured by ram raiders.
However, the quick-thinking driver sounded several blasts of her horn to summon help.
The thug then sprinted from the driveway into a nearby black saloon car.
Det Sgt Dave Maguire of Bury police said: "She managed to take the registration number.
"But we could not trace it on our computers. Either the registration doesn't exist or false plates were on the car."
The man, who was in his late teens or early 20s, wore a black ski mask with white contrast and possibly a royal blue coat. He spoke with a northern accent.
Detectives are anxious to talk to anyone who can help with their inquiries into the incident which happened at 4.10pm on Thursday (June 1).
They should ring Whitefield CID on 856 8148
