I WAS utterly appalled to read an article in the Star headed 'Vandals wreck screening unit.'
On April 17 my mum was told she had a lump in her breast, which was cancerous. She had been to the Screening Unit on Safeway car park two weeks before. She has since had the lump removed and is now waiting for six months treatment of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The specialists all said she was lucky to have caught it so soon.
A horrible feeling went through me when I read your article. What if these vandals had struck two weeks earlier and my mum's appointment had been cancelled (your article stated 140 women were affected by the closure).
If you are one of these mindless vandals I hope you are ashamed of what you did. But one final thought -- your grandmother, mother or sister, could need this potentially life-saving breast screening test in the future, I hope the facility is there for them and not destroyed by a mindless vandal.
A THANKFUL daughter (name and address supplied).
