PRESTON will host one of the most colourful civic processions of the year on Sunday when the new mayor and mayoress enjoy their first official date.
Led by the Lancastrian Brigade Band and Corps of Drums, who have just returned from the Dunkirk remembrance pilgrimage, the procession will take Mayor Joe Hood and his wife Enid to St John's Parish Church in Church Street.
Lining the route will be members of the council and visiting mayors and mayoresses from various boroughs, along with teachers and pupils from Ashton and Tulketh high schools and Preston Sea Cadets.
Mayor, Coun Joe Hood, said: "This is the second time I have made a 'first visit to church' as a first citizen of this town.
"As in 1977 the mayoress and I extend a warm welcome to the people of Preston to join us on this special day."
The procession begins at 10.30am from Guild Hall and will reach the church for the service at 11am.
