CANCER Help Preston has been given a helping hand by one of the largest grant-making trusts in the country.
The Preston charity received £12,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation to fund the salary costs of its development and bereavement worker.
Margaret O'Donoghue, director of services at the charity based at Vine House in Ribbleton, said: "The charity is a source of emotional and social support as it provides patients and their carers with specialist advice, information and counselling services. We also run a telephone helpline, a drop in centre, and use holistic care such as art and craft therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology and music therapy to help sufferers cope with their illness.
"Approximately 400 people living in the local area use our services each month.
"The effects of cancer on the lives of those suffering from the disease and their friends and families are highly traumatic and very complicated when children are involved.
"Thanks to this generous donation we can continue in our efforts to ease that pain and confusion."
George Dean, senior branch manager of Lloyds TSB in Preston, added: "The pain and suffering incurred through the loss of a loved one is always very painful and difficult, especially for children.
"It is great to see them being looked after at such times which is why I am pleased to see the Foundation has given its support and money to such a worthwhile and deserving cause."
The charity estimates that around 70 children and associated family members will benefit from the scheme this year.
