I WRITE in reference to your front page article of Thursday, May 25 concerning the bus station.
What appals me most is that we have such a body administering our local affairs.
Surely, the alternatives must or ought to have been considered before coming to the decision to go ahead.
One assumes such a decision was reached otherwise why go to the trouble and expense of of closing the bus station and making the consequential alterations in bus stops (much to the inconvenience of bus users).
To come up with the idea of alternatives some five weeks after closure (and nothing done in that period) is mind-boggling.
As to Councillor Heath's remark that the main beneficiary of a new bus station will be a private company is naive to say the least. If a new bus station is needed, does it matter who runs the services that use it?
It is the travelling public who will be the main beneficiary. Your quote from Councillor Jon Barry sums up my feelings on the subject.
I suspect there may be a bit of anti-Lancaster here on the part of the pro-Morecambe Independents.
From this, you will gather I am for going ahead with the replacement. It should have been done years ago, and the council ought to have done much more to keep it in a feasible condition. As it was, it was a disgrace.
