KING Edward and Queen Mary School's under 12s cricket team has shown promise and determination in their first season of competitive spirit.
Under the captaincy of James Atherton, the side has acheived notable wins in close finishes over Cheadle Hulme and QEGS, Blackburn.
Batsmen David Tufft already had two half-centuries to his name and there have been good contributions from William Bowker and Jon Robinson.
James Atherton is pleased with the attitude of his team.
"We have good bowlers in Luke Spink and Sam Ormsby and the fielding has been very keen," he said.
"I realise that we have a lot to learn, but with 20 matches to play we should improve very quickly."
Coach Steve Williams is equally delighted with the progress and keenness of the players.
"We have made a good start and all the players are now used to batting in helmets," he said.
"The last ball one wicket win against Blackburn showed excellent team spirit and all the squad are responding to James Atherton's well organised captaincy. "
