A LYTHAM schoolboy bowled over the opposition in a local league cricket match this week when he claimed a great eight wickets for just one run.
Pace bowler Michael Rigby, who attends St Bede's High School, achieved the brilliant figures playing for Freckleton against the Preston based team Harris Park in the Palace Shield Division C.
Michael, aged 14, of Green Lane West, Freckleton, cleaned bowled six of his eight victims and only conceded the single run after a controversial decision by the umpire not to award a leg bye.
He is, unsurprisingly, captain of his school team and he showed his all round cricketing talent by scoring 50 runs for them last week.
St Bede's cricket team coach Ian Bonny said: "Michael has tremendous talent and this is a superb performance given the very high standard of the league especially when you think he is playing against players twice his age.
"He is very quick for a teenager and I am sure he can only improve as he grows up.
"But as well as being a good bowler he is also a very talented batsmen so his prospects in the game are certainly bright."
Perhaps his talent should not come as a surprise given that he comes from a well known cricketing family with his father Lewis a locally renowned fast bowler.
But as well as being a talented cricketer, Michael is a true all round sportsman and plays football for Kirkham Juniors.
