LYTHAM'S community got together to make a wish for the future last Saturday (June 4) -- and they got one granted earlier than expected.
Lancashire County Council Youth and Community Service helped organise a "wish list day" on Saltcotes estate, Lytham, where residents were given the chance to air their views on local people's needs.
And the Saltcotes Community Centre was finally officially handed over by the council for public use.
As well as free barbecues, sports activities and face painting, a questionnaire was circulated asking local residents what kinds of activities and groups would be useful to them.
Community worker Sue Dutton was delighted with the way the day turned out.
"It was wonderful," she said. "And luckily the weather held off until late in the afternoon so everyone who came along really enjoyed themselves.
"We had a great response to the questionnaire also, but it will be a while before we can collate all the information and look at the results. "I would also like to go out into the community again and see if we can get more responses from young people."
John Hutchings also works for the Youth and Community Services and was very pleased at the way the day brought so many different agencies together.
"It was always meant to be a day for bringing the community together with different parts of the authority," he said.
"The very fact that the community centre was handed over on the day was partly due to the fact that the organisations involved were all there together on the day."
The event involved several agencies working alongside youth and community workers including Lancashire Association of Clubs for Young People, health visitors, Drugline representatives, the library service, Blackpool and the Fylde College adult education department and representatives of Fylde Borough Council.
