ACTRESS Prunella Scales has joined the campaign to stop the Lancaster Western Bypass.
The Fawlty Towers star, who is President of the Council for the Protection of Rural England, attacked the planned £55 million road.
She said: "It's difficult to see how anyone can justify destroying the beautiful countryside along the Lune Estuary for a small reduction of traffic in Lancaster City Centre which is not going to last."
Terry Sloan of Lancaster District CPRE added: "We are extremely pleased that Prunella Scales is supporting us on this campaign. It would be a travesty if the Western Bypass went ahead. Prunella's help is invaluable in getting out the message that any reduction in traffic congestion would be small and short-lived."
