A SMALL band of St Helens housewives are planning to 'have a ball' -- in aid of a worthy cause.
The Summer Ball and Dinner, dubbed the social event of the year, is to be held at St Helens Town Hall on Saturday, July 1, to raise money for Willowbrook Hospice.
The glamorous occasion, with dancing to the live music of The Manhattans, has been organised by registered charity, Busibodies -- a group of 12 local ladies who got together more than 20 years ago to help needy causes. Proceeds from the sale of tickets, priced £25 each, are being boosted by sponsorship from firms including local solicitors Canter Levin and Berg and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.
Contributions towards a Grand Draw and a tombola on the night, include an open return ticket for a car and two passengers on the SuperSeaCat from Liverpool to Dublin; a colour television; gift vouchers from Marks and Spencer and Sundeck Salon, Eccleston; and prizes from other local businesses including Victoria Wines and Fleurtations florists.
Busibodies secretary, Wendy Leatherbarrow, said: "Willowbrook brings comfort, reassurance and dignity to those facing the most difficult reality of their lives. To provide the facilities and professional care to meet such needs for the people of the St Helens and Knowsley areas, takes thousands of pounds per week which has to be found through public donation.
"We have been giving financial support to Willowbrook since before it was built and with the generous support we are receiving, we expect the Summer Ball and Dinner to be both a great social event for St Helens and a valuable source of much-needed cash."
