A BLANK Saturday after torrential rain was followed by a clinical and comprehensive disposal of Charnock Richard in the Sandhurst Shield on Sunday as Rainford continued their excellent run of form.
Anyone seeing the Jubilee Recreation ground at 8.30am on Sunday morning would have given very little for the chance of play.
But the Rainford ground staff set to work immediately and their efforts were rewarded when umpires Birch and Bentham pronounced the ground fit at 1.30pm.
The Charnock Richard outfit soon wished for another downpour as Donnelly and Steve Harrison completed opening spells of nine overs for just 12 runs each.
There was no let-up as Calland, Haskayne and Aussie paceman Andy Robinson continued the frugal bowling, backed up by lively glovework from the indomitable John Williams behind the stumps. The visitors finished their 45 overs on 101-9.
The first half was an appetiser for what came next. Justin Dalrymple rediscovered his form and treated the crowd to an exhibition of controlled hitting.
Finishing on 61 not out and with partner Mike Cook happy to play second fiddle with 32 not out.
The opening pair shared a century opening stand and secured a comprehensive victory.
The club congratulates under 13 skipper Mark Williams on once again being selected for Lancashire Schools. Mark is a pupil at De la Salle school.
