A NIGHTCLUBBER died after falling from a multi-storey car park early yesterday morning.

Mark Turner, 26, of Cuerdale Lane, Walton-le-Dale, had been out with a friend at Utopia nightclub, Blackburn, on Saturday night, according to Inspector Stephen Haworth, of Blackburn police.

Passers-by were alerted when they heard a thud and found Mr Turner lying on the ground next to the Ainsworth Street car park, which adjoins the club, at 1.50am yesterday.

He had serious head injuries and was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, where he died at about 9.30am. Police were at first unable to identify him but Mr Turner's friend telephoned them yesterday, and said they had become separated in the club.

Insp Haworth said police had been told by Mr Turner's family and friends that he had sometimes enjoyed climbing buildings in the past.

He said: "It is a very unfortunate accident with tragic results."

He said there were no suspicious circumstances but police were examining CCTV video tapes.

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Blackburn police on 01254 51212.

Five years ago, a 16-year-old girl died after plunging from the rooftop car park after a night out at the club, then called Peppermint Place.

Catherine Brookens, of Whalley New Road, Blackburn, had been seen crying in the car park before she died.
