RESIDENTS in Grindleton have the chance to make their mark in the village.

At a recent meeting locals were asked by the Woodland Trust -- the country's leading woodland conservation charity -- to get involved in the plans to design a 12-acre community woodland.

Villagers were asked for design ideas and to come up with a name which could reflect the local history of the site or the village.

The trust is also looking for a suitable 'millennium feature' to incorporate into the wood such as a pond, a group of trees, sculpture or a seat.

Ideas and suggestions for the name and design of the new wood should be sent to Heather Swift, regional manager, The Woodland Trust, 12 Sandy Lane, Leyland, PR5 1EB by June 26.

The wood will be part of the trust's 'Woods on your doorstep scheme' which aims to create 250 new woods throughout Great Britain to celebrate the new millennium.
