YOUNGSTERS are taking on the roles of editor, picture editor and reporters, to create their own front pages as a result of working through our Super Story Search literacy resource.

All twenty six pupils in year 6 at Worsthorne County Primary School are completing reading tasks and literacy activities in our project's workbook, using their daily deliveries of our newspaper.

And the Burnley pupils have become so engrosed in the world of newspapers that they are now writing and designing their own front pages.

Issues of concern in their local area and reports of school sports matches are being researched and written, and persuasive language will be studied as advertisements are created.

"We were looking for something different to use after the SATs exams," said deputy headteacher, Margaret Calvert, "and this has certainly given us plenty of good material. In fact it has gone so well that we are planning to repeat the project next year." "Copies of the newspaper and the reading tasks have also been sent home with the children to use as shared reading material," she added, "and all class work on the project has helped us to fulfill many requirements of the National Curriculum, not only in literacy but also in design technology".

The school has also ordered our Maths Motivation material and plans to make use of the numeracy resource throughout the next school year.
