OVER the years, Lancashire County Council has done some illogical things, but its latest stunt in Oswaldtwistle really takes the biscuit.
I was brought up in the Civic Theatre (Town Hall) area of Oswaldtwistle and for as long as I can remember, there was the ideal bus stop opposite the theatre. At this point, Union Road is probably at its widest, with any bus picking up or dropping off being able to pull completely off the road.
Perfect, one would think -- but not the County Council.
We have all heard and seen the new quality bus routes with the 100ft red markings on the road but Lancashire County Council in its wisdom has moved this bus stop further down the road, opposite the bus stop on the other side, basically reducing the width of the road.
Last Friday, when I was in the area the inevitable happened. A bus was stopped on one side of the road and a lorry on the other, with its driver asking directions. The outcome? Total chaos.
The problem with Lancashire County Council's Labour-run authority is it will not listen to the public. In fact, it thinks that asking the council tax payer is beneath it.
