PENDLE will feature new boundary signs welcoming visitors to the borough, but only when local firms and groups come up with sponsorship to cover their cost.
Councillors last night gave the green light for seven new signs costing around £5,000.
But they agreed sponsors should be signed before the signs go up, rather than the other way round. Councillors wants to avoid cost to tax payers.
The new signs are arch-shaped with the words "Welcome to Pendle" and with the council logo underneath. Below that is a separate plate with details of Pendle's twin towns in France and Germany, which would be replaced with the name of a sponsor if a deal is agreed.
The signs will go up on the following main roads: the A682 at Blacko and Brierfield; the A6068 at Higham and Laneshawbridge; the A56 Earby; the A59 Barnoldswick; and the B6252 Barnoldswick.
